Bust out the popcorn and don your most comfortable bathrobe this Sunday for Awesöme Orchestra's Inaugural Play-at-Home Watch Party! Join us as we go live on our Facebook Page from 3-4:30pm on March 29 to bring you a mini-documentary about the making of the 2013 orchestral pop album Petty Troubles by Matt Montgomery followed by a Q&A with Artistic Director Dave Möschler and Associate Artistic Director Brian Adam McCune.
So why this film? Well, not only is it the seven-year anniversary of when it was shot, but last week was AÖC's seventh Birthday 🎉 so we figured we'd screen a film that showcases many of our founding members and captures our musically adventurous spirit! We went on to perform this album live many times over the years (including with the legendary Van Dyke Parks), and this film was recorded in one day at the same West Oakland warehouse where Awesöme Orchestra was born.
If you want to play along at home for any of the five songs, check out the sheet music in the google drive (bit.ly/AOCOpenSession). This particular album was arranged for rock band accompanied by chamber orchestra (1 flute, 1 clarinet (B-flat), 1 bass clarinet, 1 bassoon, 2 horns (F), timpani, percussion, strings) but folks are welcome to play along with any instruments they so desire! No need to sign up and no section limits: just grab your instrument and have fun, or just make fun comments and tag friends in the chat!
Huge thank you to composer/songwriter Matt Montgomery and filmmaker Isaac Pingree for allowing us to screen the film (which was orchestrated and conducted by Brian Adam McCune, recorded and mixed by Brendan West).
