7:00PM - Aaron Copland - "Hoe-Down" from Rodeo (full orchestra)

INSTRUMENTATION: 2 flutes, 1 piccolo, 2 oboes, 1 english horn, 2 clarinets (B-flat), 1 bass clarinet, 2 bassoons, 4 horns (F), 3 trumpets (B-flat), 3 trombones, 1 tuba, timpani, 5 percussion (xylophone, snare drum, wood block, bass drum, cymbal), piano, strings.

8:00PM - Alex Van Gils - The Permanent (full orchestra) 

Premiere for full orchestra! Featuring special guest alto saxophone soloist, Andrew Van Tassel.

INSTRUMENTATION: 2 flutes (2nd doubling piccolo), 2 oboes, 2 clarinets (B-flat) (2nd doubling bass clarinet w/ low C ext.), 2 bassoons, 2 horns (F), 2 trumpets (C), 2 trombones, 1 bass trombone, timpani (2 drums), 3 percussion (glockenspiel, crotales, suspended cymbal, snare drum, vibraphone, triangle, bass drum, 4 toms), jazz drum set, harp, keyboard, solo bass, strings.

9:00-10:00pm - Harry Nilsson - “Salmon Falls” from Duit on Mon Dei (arr. by Perry Botkin)

Featuring special guest vocal soloist, Kiefo Nilsson

INSTRUMENTATION: 2 flutes, 2 oboes, 2 clarinets, 2 bassoons, timpani, marimba, vibraphone (improv solo), drum set, electric bass, keyboard, strings.

TRANSPORTATION SUGGESTIONS: Limited free street parking is available, and it is a 25-minute walk from Lake Merritt BART station, so we strongly recommend carpooling with others using the Facebook event or AOC Community Announcements Group or through section emails. From Lake Merritt BART you can take AC Transit lines 1, 40, 62, or  96.

Please bring a music stand and battery-powered stand light if you have one as we'll be outside! We'll have chairs, sheet music, water, and Lagunitas for all musicians of age!

Deadlines for smaller sections are Sunday April 23. Once that is past, expect an email from your Awesöme Ambassadors with specific info and part assignments (check your spam filters if this is your first session), and email them if you haven't heard back by Sunday April 30 (please be patient - they have a lot of information to collect before emailing everyone). On May 5, 2017, Awesöme Orchestra will hold its 50th free Open Session, so we're celebrating with a 24-hr fundraising drive the day before! The fundraiser will be open from midnight to midnight on Thursday, May 4th. We have a goal of $5000, which will help facilitate all the fantastic events and sessions we have planned for the remainder of 2017. YOU can make this happen! Awesöme Orchestra is deeply grateful for all donations, but we strongly encourage you to consider making a recurring monthly donation of $5 a month. Even in small installments, recurring donations can make an enormous impact on the strength of an organization.

The involvement and generosity of our dedicated audience members and musicians is what's gotten Awesöme Orchestra to its 50th session. With your help, we can reach our 100th!

A little friendly rivalry to spark competition: your donation can be made on behalf of an orchestra section (strings, brass, woodwinds, percussion) by listing it in the "message of support" on the payment page. The section that donates the most wins the chance to choose a piece for an upcoming session! (Only one section can be selected per donation. But if you REALLY want to vote for multiple sections, you're welcome to make multiple donations!)
