Awesöme Orchestra is excited to partner with East Bay Center for the Performing Arts for a special community music-making event: Session 116: Bring Your Student to AÖC Day on Saturday, August 22 from 1-4pm.
This special Richmond-based collaboration will bring together East Bay Center students, faculty, families, and the broader Awesöme Orchestra community for an afternoon of rehearsal, collaboration, and performance — all within a single session. EBCPA has a few Awesöme Orchestra members on their faculty including Carolyn Walter, Arturo Rodriguez, and Andrea Landin, who all helped inspire this exciting partnership.
The session will feature several orchestral works, including a Ghanaian folk song arranged for full orchestra and percussion by East Bay Center’s Artistic Leadership team. Students across the Bay Area in the EBCPA community will join AÖC for a unique intergenerational music experience centered on creativity, accessibility, and community.
Priority for this session will be given to people who self-identify as students. It is our goal to have a fun blend of students and regular Awesöme Orchestra community members!

Transportation Suggestions: The East Bay Center for Performing Arts is a 10 minute walk from the RICHMOND Bart Station. The 72M Bus line also stops right out in front of the venue. If public transit isn’t an option, we strongly recommend carpooling, biking, or ride-sharing. Please join our Discord to coordinate them!
Audience: Free and open to all ages. Capacity for the space is 100 musicians at a time and 50 audience members. Audience is first-come, first-served.

WHAT TO BRING: Bring yourself, a sense of adventure, and your instrument (we have a small instrument lending library if you need one). We’ll provide the chairs, sheet music, and stands!

Self-identifying student musicians can sign up starting Wednesday, July 29. Our non-student community members can begin signing up on Tuesday, August 4 at 6pm. This allows us to prioritize space for our student players

We have space for: 8 flutes, 8 oboes, 10 clarinets, 8 bassoons, 5 saxophone, 10 horns, 7 trumpets, 9 trombones, 2 bass trombones, 2 tubas, 10 percussion, 3 piano/keyboard, 32 violins, 16 violas, 16 celli, and 8 double basses.
Waitlist Protocol
Our community of musicians is growing (which is AWESOME), but sometimes that means that some sections fill up quickly (especially flutes and clarinets). You can still sign-up, but if you notice on the form that your instrument has a “waitlist” tag on it, don’t despair! We usually take players off the waitlist as some folks’ plans change. When that happens, you’ll be notified by your Section Ambassadors.
Please do not cancel day of! Our amazing Awesöme Ambassadors are juggling a lot on our session days and trying to fill your spot last minute is a challenge!
