Position Overview

Awesöme Orchestra seeks a skilled, creative, ambitious person to join our small, part-time staff. The Director of Development reports to the Founding Artistic Director and is responsible for the fundraising, grant writing, and some operations of the orchestra.

An average of 15–20 hours a month, offering flexible working hours. Paid by the hour as an independent contractor (benefits are not included and taxes are not withheld from paycheck). Position pays $23 an hour.

Major Responsibilities

  • Create and lead strategic plans of the orchestra’s development 

  • Plan donation strategy for live events, and re-evaluate existing strategy

  • Plan and manage our Annual End-of-Year Concert and Fundraiser (this is traditionally scheduled for early December)

  • Research grant opportunities, write grant proposals, and report to granting foundations in a timely manner

  • Serve as a primary ambassador for Awesöme Orchestra at events, actively engaging with and broadening our audience and donors community. This includes taking on an emcee role during intermissions, working alongside the Founding Artistic Director to represent and amplify the organization's voice and presence.

  • Obtain sponsorships (in-kind and monetary)

  • Meet with Awesöme Orchestra staff monthly

  • Assist with operations and events as needed

  • Recruit and manage volunteers for events as needed

  • Attend all sessions and events

  • Work with a great team to make awesome musical adventures possible!

Required Qualifications

  • Love of live music and community events

  • Excellent writing skills including proofreading and editing. Can write in a style that is both clear and fun

  • Quick learner

  • Flexible schedule—ideal for a freelancer

  • Have your own computer

  • Able to work efficiently remotely and complete tasks on deadline

  • Motivated to think creatively about how Awesöme Orchestra can get even more awesome and improve our business model

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working for a non-profit

  • Experience in grant writing and fundraising

  • Experience playing orchestral music

  • Experience with donor relationships

  • Experience using G Suite apps, Salesforce a HUGE plus

  • Know how to type an ö
